ABRAHAM
The early ancestors of the Jewish people, are the ancient Hebrews. The ancient Hebrews found new ideas in religion which started Judaism, the religion of the Jewish people. Judasim was the first religion based on monotheism, the concept of one God, who set down moral laws for humanity. The ancient Hebrew are described in Torah--- the oldest religious writings of the Jewish people and is part of the Hebrew Bible. The account of the Hebrews begins with Abraham , some historians, known as Abram, was born about 2000 B.C. in Mesopotamia. In Mesopotamia they believed in many Gods, but Abram only believed in one God. According to the Hebrew Bible, God spoke to Abram, telling him to leave Mesopotamia with his family to Canaan. After traveling in the desert, Abram heard God say, " I will assign this land to your offspring." In the Bible it states that God made a covenant with Abram. In this Agreement, God ,that Canaan would always belong to Abram and his descendants. Abram agreed to worship God alone. Then, all the Hebrews came to hold his belief. Abram obeyed God and change his name Abraham which means, "father of many." Through one of his sons, Isaac, Abraham became known as the father of the Jewish people.
THE ISRAELITES
Abraham's grandson's son, Joseph,had 11 brothers. His father loved Joseph according to Bible, at that that time the other sons got jealous, when Jacob, his father, gave him a beautiful robe. One day, Joseph had a dream that his brothers would bow down to him. with anger, the brothers sold him to traders on there way to Egypt. they persuaded their father that he was killed by a wild animal. Joseph lived in Egypt for a while, even though the Egyptians worshiped many gods he still followed Abraham's religion, worshiping one god. Meanwhile, at Canaan famine struck, his brothers couldn't find food, they traveled to Egypt to buy food not knowing Joseph was there, the brothers reunited. later, his family moved to Egypt. Each of Jacob's sons had a tribe, of descendants of Israel. The Pharaoh of that time feared that the Israelites would gain power, so the pharaoh enslaved the Israelites.
Moses and the Exodus
Who is Moses? He was born when Israelites were saved according to the Bible.
At that same time, the pharaoh worried that that the Israelites might overthrow the Egyptians, to prevent to he ordered that every Israelite baby boy had to drowned in the Nile River. Moses was a Israelite baby so, his mother set him afloat in a basket along the Nile River, hoping that someone would save him. The Pharaoh's daughter saved Moses and raised him as an Egyptian. But. Moses learned soon that he was a Israelite. God told Moses to demand freedom for the Israelites, Moses did as he said, but he got rejected by the Pharaoh. God sent ten Plagues to Egypt.( he turned the Nile River's water into blood). Even though, the Pharaoh did not change his mind. Until the tenth Plague, he finally change his mind. The Israelites' mass departure from Egypt to escape Slavery is known as Exodus. Professionals believe that happened around 1225 B.C. This event is describe in the second book of the bible. The Bible says that God spoke to the Israelites at Mount.Sinai. God presented two stone tables craved with set of laws called the Ten Commandments.
